[NBA Draft]: 2024 Mock Draft Comparison, October 2023 (updated 11/13)

Update 11/13: Fresh mock draft out today from Sam Vecenie/The Athletic with some very interesting picks including Garwey Dual at #10 and Yves Missi at #19. He’s also a bit lower than consensus with the G League Ignite duo of Ron Holland at #3 and Izan Almansa at #15.

Update 11/10: We have updated picks this week from Jonathan Wasserman/Bleacher Report and a couple weeks ago from Tankathon, so I’m adding both to this post for the time being, until we have more for November at which time I’ll break off a new November-specific post. College basketball season is up and running, so we can expect a bunch of changes in the next month, including Ja’Kobe Walter moving up after his memorable showing in a win versus Auburn.

Update 10/6: Just one day after posting we have another new mock draft to add from Jonathan Wasserman/Bleacher Report who has Ron Holland, Alex Sarr and Matas Buzelis going in the first 3 picks, and Tyrese Proctor all the way up at #5. It looks like a couple of the teams picking might be off on this one this one: Boston traded their Warriors 2024 1st to the Blazers for Lillard and the Rockets pick was traded to OKC way back when with top 4 protection, so not sure what happened there.

NBA training camps are in session, pre-season games have begun, and a few updated mock drafts are out from Jonathan Givony/ESPN, Keandre/Hoop Intellect and yours truly at Hoops Distillery. There’s a huge amount of disagreement all around, as is typical at this time of year. But now having seen the G League Ignite exhibitions and some NBL game highlights there are certainly a few rising to the top.

Pick order is also very interesting at this stage because everyone is using different sources and/or has drastically different beliefs in who will be the worst teams in the league this year. The middle class in the East and West will be tighter than usual with so much talent across the board and even fewer teams than normal who aren’t fighting for the play-in tournament once again.

Note: I brought over the Tankathon draft power rankings from a couple of months ago because it has shifted with some of the trades that went through in the last month and is interesting to compare with the updated version. While Houston and San Antonio held strong, Portland is now in the mix after a slew of assets coming in from the Lillard and post-Lillard trades.
